This is the story of a man called Babine and his fellow villagers: Toussaint Brodeur the Fly-tamer, a blacksmith in love with a widow from St. Barnab who cheats on him with the priest Mo the hairdresser whose love for the bottle gives his customers strange hairdos Madame Glinas.
